Dear Friends,

You may have heard reports of a tornado that touched the upper west side of the Bronx Sunday afternoon. This occurred in a one-square mile area where High Ridge House is located. We are happy to report that all patients, guests, and staff are safe. Our power did not go out and the main building was not hurt by the fallen trees. However, our lovely wooded backyard and maintenance buildings sustained quite a bit of damage. The tree experts are now humming with their saws and chippers, clearing away many of our stately beauties. But we still have much wooded land and much good to be grateful for. We were protected from the storm. And the removal of some trees presents potential new opportunities.

One immediate opportunity has been to be a Good Samaritan to our neighbor behind us, a group home. We have been able to help them with some of their needs and to be a friend. High Ridge House has a role to play in our local community, as well as in our larger one.

Cancellation of Mid-Summer Fun Event, July 31
We feel the need to make only one change in plans due to this event: we are canceling the Mid-Summer Fun event for youth, scheduled for this coming Saturday. Since the main location was to be outdoors, it seems wise to concentrate on our clean-up efforts and hold a different event later in the year. Those interested in planning youth-focused events or in helping us with our landscaping may contact us at any time.
